Well it's official! My "temporary" plastic shower curtain (that lasted over two years) is GONE!! Blame no time for myself, blame the fact that home remodeling is expensive, blame the issue that my ultimate dream (reeded shower glass) was impossible to find, whatever the excuse is, my shower glass is in and I couldn't be more thrilled. Best part? It was a DIY (inspired by Coco and Jack's amazing shower door) which saved us some $$$. Today I'm sharing all the steps and supplies. Hopefully this inspires you to get out there and DIY! Can't wait to see what you make and check out my reel here.
* Shower glass - cut and installed by my shower glass installer (I used brushed brass clips)
* Brass strips - I went local to save a lot of money on shipping. Farmer's Copper in San Antonio was great.
* Clamps
* Blue Painters Tape - we used this + clamps to hold the brass on as the glue set
* Tape Measure
* Level
* Miter saw and fine tooth wood blade
* Rubbing Alcohol/ Nail Polish (Acetone)- super helpful to clean the brass and glass as needed
Steps
* I had the shower glass measured, cut and installed by a professional.
* Order brass strips - I went with 3 feet and 8 feet pieces to make it easier for the cutting process, 3/4" wide and 1/4" thick (they only had 1/4" in stock but you could go with 1/8" instead). We still had to cut a good amount, if I had had more time/planned better I would have mapped this out with blue tape on the glass once installed and had Farmer's Copper cut them more exact.
***note we just did brass on the outside of the glass panel, not on the shower side, to save some money!***
* Cut brass to size and to fit around brackets using ******
* Clean brass with rubbing alcohol and paper towels.
* Using the JB Weld Epoxy, level and tape measure, attach the brass to the glass.
* Hold the brass strips in place with clamps and blue tape while the epoxy sets.
* Once set (wait 24 hours to be safe) use acetone to clean off any excess epoxy on glass.
TADA!!! There you have it, your own custom brass shower glass.
What do you think? Will you give it a try? Can't wait to see!!
